Carey shared that his mental health struggles began in his youth and worsened during his late teens and early twenties. In a recent conversation with Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell, Carey shed more light on his experiences. He explained how the pressures of living in Hollywood and societal stigma about mental health made it difficult to seek help. “You feel it, you hold it in, and you don’t let it go,” he said.
The actor had also previously spoken on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, on the show Carey revealed that he attempted suicide twice during this period, describing them as “calls for help.” He admitted feeling overwhelmed by isolation and resentment as if life was passing him by while everyone else seemed to be enjoying it.

Despite these challenges, Drew Carey began to rebuild his life by focusing on self-improvement. He credited self-help books with teaching him to believe in himself and set meaningful goals. “I read every single one I could get a hold of,” Carey shared, adding that this habit remains a cornerstone of his personal growth.
