Austin Brown, Son of Rebbie Jackson, Carves His Own Path in the Legendary Jackson Music Legacy
Being born into the Jackson family—a dynasty that includes musical icons Janet and Michael Jackson as aunt and uncle, and the legendary Jackson 5 as uncles—could be both a blessing and a challenge for aspiring artist Austin Brown. Yet, despite the weight of this iconic lineage, Brown has embraced the music world on his own terms.

“I actually have asked myself that before,” Brown told CNN, reflecting on the decision to enter the tough music industry. “But for me, there wasn’t any other way. It makes me feel good about expressing myself.”
The independent artist, who recently released the album The Festival with his band BLVK CVSTLE, sees music as his emotional outlet and creative sanctuary.
Growing up, Brown was deeply influenced not only by his family’s immense legacy but also by classic hits like Stevie Wonder’s Overjoyed, which was released the year he was born, and his mother Rebbie Jackson’s hit Centipede. More importantly, Brown learned resilience and balance from his mother’s own experiences navigating the music industry’s hardships.
“She went through just a lot of things, mentally and spiritually,” he shared, praising her steady head in the face of challenges.
Brown’s father, Nathaniel Brown, a hardworking business owner, also provided a model of perseverance and determination. “I saw that example every day,” Austin said.
Far from the glamorous stereotype, Brown described his upbringing as grounded and real, relating to others’ struggles regardless of his famous family ties.
“When they get around me and they’re like ‘Yo, you went through the same stuff I went through,’ I’m like, ‘It’s no difference, bro.’”

His journey as an artist has been marked by years of songwriting, live performances, and steadily building his presence.
Recently, Brown headlined a residency at Anderson .Paak’s restaurant in Los Angeles, riding the momentum of The Festival and continuously crafting new music.
Outside the spotlight, family remains his greatest joy. Brown treasures quiet moments playing board games with his 95-year-old grandmother, Katherine Jackson, often accompanied by his mother. “I cherish those moments big time,” he said, emphasizing the grounding power of family amid a demanding career.
As the world buzzes about the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, featuring Brown’s cousin Jaafar Jackson portraying the King of Pop, Austin expressed his admiration for the performance.
“I saw a screen testing of it and it was emotional how great he was. He’s gonna blow people’s minds.”
The Festival is now available for streaming, marking another chapter in Austin Brown’s personal and artistic journey—one that honors his heritage while boldly defining his own voice.
