The Italian tenor graced the Oscars stage alongside his son, Matteo, delivering a heartfelt duet as the ceremony honored those we have lost.
Andrea Bocelli made a surprise appearance at last night’s Academy Awards, delivering a heartfelt father-son duet of his iconic single, Time to Say Goodbye, in a newly arranged version by renowned film composer Hans Zimmer.
Joined by a string quartet and a team of dancers, the duo performed as a moving tribute played out on screens behind them, honoring the actors, musicians, and industry legends lost over the past year—including composers Ryuichi Sakamoto and Robbie Robertson, and beloved actor Matthew Perry.
The performance marked the start of a milestone year for Bocelli, who is celebrating three decades in music. It also introduced a fresh take on Con te partirò, the beloved 1995 ballad that cemented his status as a global star.
“This is the song of my life,” Bocelli shared. “It is the melody that defines me in the eyes of the world. Reinventing it with Hans Zimmer and singing it alongside my son Matteo is an exciting challenge.”
Hinting at more surprises to come, Bocelli revealed that the new arrangement is part of a larger upcoming project tied to his 30th anniversary celebrations—including a headline performance at BST Hyde Park in London this summer.
Matteo Bocelli echoed his father’s sentiments, saying, “‘Time to Say Goodbye’ is more than just a song to me—it’s my family’s national anthem and the soundtrack to countless memories.
“Performing it alongside my father in a new orchestration is a tremendous honor, and singing it on the Oscars stage is truly a dream come true!”
The duo previously collaborated on the 2018 single Fall On Me and later joined the youngest Bocelli family member, Virginia, for a festive family album in 2022.
