Venus Williams has set a remarkable example in tennis, but it is not the only thing she is striving for. This WTA star has won 7 singles and 14 doubles Grand Slam titles, along with 4 Olympic gold medals. But, tennis is still her secondary obsession.
In a recent interview, as she delves into her career details, the tennis fraternity realizes that behind her success lies an unshakable spirit, which she might have garnered through the practice of her life’s first obsession. So, what is it?

Queen V shared an interesting detail about her life’s biggest obsession, and it’s not tennis. The former WTA number one, with Cultured Magazine‘s official IG account, shared the interview clip, where Williams highlighted how she views tennis as an artistic game.
She described how individual playstyles complement each other, turning players into artists. She also called herself an artist who sweats, candidly adding that when it came to her obsession, it wasn’t the sport she passionately plays—it was escape rooms.
“Definitely my obsession with escape rooms. Don’t ask me why, but I cannot live without them, and it’s my happy place,” Venus said.
Yes, that’s right! Queen V loves quests and puzzles, which the escape room environment offers, showcasing her intense admiration for intelligent gaming.
While shooting at the Met Museum, Venus Williams revealed to interviewer Titus Kaphar and expressed her love for fashion and the emerging artists she’s following.
Yet, hardly anyone expected to hear about her obsession with escape rooms. However, considering her track record of surprising fans, Williams’ followers might not have been so shocked.
Previously, in an interview with Essence Magazine about her second book Strive, and her lifestyle choices, Williams revealed her escape room obsession.
“My biggest hobby is escape rooms. When traveling, I’ll start the day at 6 a.m., and my only free time is to do an escape room at 11 p.m. It’s an interesting mental challenge,” she said.
Williams’ statement highlighted her attraction to mental challenges, something likely helps the player stay calm on the court during crucial matches.
According to Business Traveller, Williams mentioned that, besides art and traveling, escape rooms are her favorite. “I’m an escape-room junkie and just did a virtual one with my niece,” she added.
While many might feel overwhelmed by the idea of spending leisure time in an escape room, Venus Williams aces it like a queen. The hobby must be having a positive impact on her health and mental strength.
Speaking of health, back in 2011, Venus battled an autoimmune disease, and it was her indomitable spirit has helped her focus on her dreams and overcome obstacles.
