Taylor Swift was bursting with joy when the Kansas City Chiefs selected former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the 2024 NFL Draft.
During her announcement for her new album on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, “New Heights”, the pop sensation regaled her boyfriend and Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, and his brother and recent NFL retiree, Jason Kelce, about her excitement for the Worthy pick.
“We drafted Xavier Worthy,” Swift exclaimed. “And all my friends were like ‘what’?”

Kansas City selected Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick earlier this year.
For his career, the 5-foot-11, 165 pounder finished his Longhorns career with 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns. Last season during Texas’ run to the CFP, Worthy hauled in a career-high 75 receptions for a career-high 1,014 yards and five touchdowns.
Then, all he did to follow up his best season in Austin was break the record at the NFL Combine with a 4.21 40-yard dash time. Like he did at the combine in Indianapolis, Worthy wasted little time making an impact once he got to the NFL.
On his first professional football touch, Worthy scored his first touchdown versus the Baltimore Ravens – running it in from 21 yards out. He then caught another 35-yard touchdown in the 27–20 win. As a rookie, he finished with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns.
Xavier Worthy also made his presence felt in Super Bowl LIX.
In the 40-22 loss, he still shined. Worthy finished with eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns – becoming the first Texas Longhorn to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Furthermore, his 157 receiving yards set a new Super Bowl record for most by a rookie receiver, breaking the previous mark of 109 yards by Torry Holt and Chris Matthews.
Making history and wasting no time to make an impact is nothing new to Worthy. In his first Red River Rivalry game, he got the Cotton Bowl crowd rocking on the first play from scrimmage – sprinting 75 yards for the opening score of the game. Despite losing late to Caleb Williams and the Sooners, Worthy finished with 261 receiving yards.
Later in the season, Worthy received Freshman All-America, first-team All-Big 12, and Offensive Freshman of the Year honors after leading the Longhorns with 981 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
