Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have lost two Super Bowls, but hurting Rashee Rice is his biggest low point.

You’d think that the lowest point in a man’s career would be when he couldn’t get the job done for the most important thing in that field, twice. But if you’re Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, that’s not the case at all.

Now, I’m sure Mahomes would consider both of those losses, one to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one to the Philadelphia Eagles, both blowouts, as low points. He is the ultimate competitor and really only cares about winning by whatever means necessary. But, there is one other thing that has kept him down in the dumps when it comes to his career.

This is a guy who rarely shows emotion, unless he’s winning the Super Bowl. He doesn’t let anyone inside of how he feels, even when he wins a playoff game. It’s always calm, cool, and collected.

But hurting your teammate can make anyone feel down and put them at a low point.

Patrick Mahomes’ low point has to do with Rashee Rice

Rashee Rice is the best receiver on he team, no matter how good we think Xavier Worthy can be, or how good Hollywood Brown is when he is healthy. Rice was on his way to having a stellar season last year, as he had two 100-yard gams in three gams to start the season.

But that fourth game is when it all came crashing down.

Against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes was targeting Rice on a pass, but threw an interception. On the interception, the defender was returning the ball, with Rice behind him and Mahomes in front of him. Mahomes tried to make the tackle, but ended up hitting Rice’s knee.

That led to Rice tearing his ACL and missing the entire season.

“I saw how hard he worked in training camp, and how he prepared himself. And, he was having such a great start to the season. That’s my guy, man, and Rashee, for me to be the one to take him out, was tough. That was probably my low point,” Patrick Mahomes said on The Kingdom docuseries on ESPN.

Now, the part of the interview that was pulled for this was before the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Eagles, so maybe his low point has changed. But it would make sense that would be his low point. That has to suck, and it has to make him feel bad.

The good thing is, the Chiefs still made the Super Bowl without Rice, Brown, and a ton of their players throughout part of the season. With most of these guys back in 2025, they could be on their way to being a Super Bowl team again.
