Andy Reid and tight end Travis Kelce have nearly come to blows on the sidelines, but the Kansas City Chiefs head coach insisted the 35-year-old is angry with him for another reason

Travis Kelce has seen his snap count decrease each week in 2025

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid admitted Travis Kelce was “mad” at him following their win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chiefs moved back to .500 after securing a win over the Baltimore Ravens, whose quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a hamstring injury. It was a crucial win for the AFC champions, who have endured a difficult start to the 2025 season.

Amid the Chiefs’ offensive struggles, Kelce and Reid have clashed several times. During the Chiefs’ win over the New York Giants, the tight end went viral as he vented his fury at his head coach on the sidelines while his team struggled in the first half.

The pair were seen screaming in one another’s faces, with Reid even bumping Kelce before things cooled off and they won the game. The Chiefs secured back-to-back victories with the 37-20 win over the Ravens, but Kelce’s snap count dropped to 66 percent.

In Week 1, Kelce played 84 percent of the Chiefs’ offensive plays, while he logged 77 percent against the Philadelphia Eagles and 74 percent against the Giants. Following the win over the Ravens, Reid admitted Kelce gets frustrated when he doesn’t play — but it’s for his own sake.

“He gets mad at me, but it’s my responsibility to make sure that we don’t get too many reps in there, that we give him at least a blow here and there,” Reid told reporters of Kelce. “He’d play every play if he had his choice.”

Through four weeks, Kelce has 182 yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions. After the win over the Ravens, Reid added: “I thought he really played well in both the run and pass game.

“He looked strong all the way through. He’s in great shape right now. That’s the important part. He came back, and he’d really trained hard and aggressive for this thing.

“He’s such a big part of it. Not only his effort, but the mentality he comes into these games with, he’s all-in all the time.”

The clash between Kelce and Reid against the Giants may have concerned some fans, but the pair have done this before. They clashed in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers, and the 35-year-old claimed the confrontations helped him elevate his game.

“What Andy made of it. I love that guy, man,” Kelce told reporters. “There’s nothing outside of this building that’s going to make me feel any different way. We know exactly each other’s intentions. I think what Coach Reid does best is he challenges guys to be at their best, and I love that about him.”
